Gary Amey, Jr. is the Chief FHA Underwriter and Director of Dwight Capital’s Washington, DC office.  His primary responsibilities include the oversight of the day-to-day operations for FHA/HUD Underwriting team and Quality Control procedures, while serving as Loan Committee Chair on all HUD MAP transactions.  In addition, he continues to have an active involvement in the mentoring of the firm’s Underwriters and Underwriting Trainees, providing guidance and support to enhance their career development. Gary has 15 years of experience in the real estate industry, with a vast knowledge of multifamily financing and development. As a result, he is a highly-valued resource both internally to the origination and underwriting teams, as well as externally to our clients.

Prior to joining Dwight in March 2016, he was an Assistant Vice President and FHA MAP Underwriter at Walker & Dunlop. Overall, Gary has overseen or been directly involved with the underwriting in excess of $1 Billion in closed HUD/FHA Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) insured loans throughout the United States.

Gary has extensive experience in the affordable housing and new construction platforms for multifamily assets. In prior tenures as a Market Analyst for various firms, his primary responsibilities included authoring market feasibility studies and assisting in the preparation of HUD MAP and conventional appraisals for new construction and/or the substantial rehabilitation of market-rate, mixed-use, and adaptive re-use of market rate projects; and affordable housing developments applying for 4% and 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) for various state housing agencies across the United States. Additionally, he has served as an advisor to several developers on product design characteristics for prospective multifamily projects. His prior work experience in these fields provides the Dwight team and clients with a unique perspective and insight on the assessment of market demand and valuation.   

Gary graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Minor in Business Administration.
